Nabil called for Digital education and building cyber security infrastructure to bridge the digital divide

Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Kazi Nabil Ahmed has called upon all BIMSTEC member states to build a strong cyber security framework and enhance digital education by bridging the digital divide.

Nabil Ahmed made the call while addressing as the chief guest in the event titled 'BIMSTEC Regional Consultation on Global Compact' at a city hotel. At the same time, he expressed his optimism that the expansion of digital connectivity and innovation for economic growth and better service delivery will create unprecedented opportunities.

"But it brings us with many challenges like digital divide, cyber security and data privacy," he said. ’

Noting that BIMSTEC region is home to 1.7 billion people and a large number of young people among them, Kazi Nabil MP said, "The use of internet in our region is increasing rapidly and millions of new users are being added every year." But despite this progress, there is a disparity between digital access and education between urban and rural. ’

Kazi Nabil said, "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, work is going on to build Digital Bangladesh and it has come a long way in reaching digital services to every corner of the country." Due to this initiative, significant progress has been made in the number of internet users, digital education and e-governance facilities and millions of people, especially the people of the villages, have access to online services. ’

Noting that the ideals of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are resonating here, he said, "Bangabandhu's vision of fairness, justice and prosperity for all can serve as a guide in bridging the digital divide."
